The Japanese carrier Zuikaku was sister ship to Shokaku and shared her specification. They formed the Fifth Carrier Division of the First Air Fleet. Zuikaku flew 6th Attack Unit, 16th Attack Unit and 6th Fighter Combat Unit on 7 December. She then saw service in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands in October 1942 and in the massive air battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944. She was bombed, torpedoed and rolled over to sink on 25 October 1944.
