Lieutenant Commander Thomas, Francis J.

Lieutenant Commander Thomas was senior officer on board the battleship Nevada when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. The ship was moored at the northern end of Battleship Row and Thomas took up station below at battle control while Lieutenant Lawrence E. Ruff (Ruff, Lawrence E.) took post in the conning tower. After the ship had been hit a number of times and was burning, Thomas was ordered to abandon the attempt to leave harbor and beached his command.
