Captain Shoemaker, James M.

Captain Shoemaker was commander of the Navy Air Station on Ford Island. There was little he could do on 7 December except attempt to deal with damage limitation and fire fighting. He met Lieutenant Commander Bromfield B. Nicol (Nicol, Bromfield B.) when he was flown in from Enterprise by Commander Howard L. Young (Young, Howard L.) and drove him to Naval Air Boat Landing to take a launch to CinCPAC. Later that day, when Lieutenant Hebel (Hebel, Francis) was attempting to bring in a flight from Enterprise, Shoemaker put Young, as a familiar voice, on the radio from the control tower to talk it in.
