Chief Boatswain Hirohito, Emperor

Hirohito was born in 1901 and became regent in 1921 when his father, Yoshihito, was declared insane. He became Emperor of Japan on his father's death in 1926. It is said that he insisted that 30 minutes notice was to be given of Japan's intention to attack Pearl Harbor although this, as are most aspects of his influence in the war, is open to doubt. In 1946 he ceased to be the divine ruler and became a constitutional monarch. He died in 1989. He was an expert marine biologist.
