The Consolidated Barracks were at Hickam Field, the base of 18th Bombardment Wing and 5th and 11th Heavy Bombardment Groups. Reports that they were strafed by Japanese aircraft in the attack of 7 December are incorrect. The Japanese had many more attractive targets in the shape of bombers on the runways and taxiways and here, as elsewhere, spent or defective American anti-aircraft ordnance was the most likely cause of damage. The barracks became known as Hale Makai Barracks later in the war.
