Blake, Captain Gordon

Blake was Operations Officer at Hickam Field, base of 18th Bombardment Wing and 5th and 11th Heavy Bombardment Groups. On the morning of 7 December he was expecting the arrival of 12 B-17s of 38th and 88th Recon Squadrons when the Japanese attacked. He attempted to get to the control tower to send a warning message to them, but could not. He then went to the field to be there when they landed. His staff car was missing, so he got a ride on the pillion of the bike of a member of a Honolulu motorcycle club.
