14th Pursuit Wing

Brigadier General Howard Davidson commanded 14th Pursuit Wing which included 15th Pursuit Group and 18th Pursuit Group His headquarters were at Wheeler Field as were the majority of his aircraft. There were small numbers at Bellows Field Air Base and at Haleiwa Field. The fighters were on a routine alert status, which meant that they would, in the ordinary way of operation, need four hours to reach combat preparedness. The reaction of Lieutenant-general Walter C. Short (Short, Walter C.) to the war warning messages he had received was to provide against sabotage by local people.
